Spirits are high as Westport welcomes its newest business.
Homestead Sprits, a liquor and wine store, has opened its doors just in time for the holiday season.
For owner Mary Jane Viens, this is the culmination of a lot of planning, and a longtime goal. “I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, and own my own business,” she said. “This liquor store has been a dream of mine for years.”
Though there have been liquor stores in Westport in the past, it has been many years since the town has had one as part of its business mix.
Viens recounted her years working at neighboring Ernie’s Market, and the frequent times she directed customers who inquired about the nearest liquor store. “It was clear, anecdotally anyway, that there’s a market for a liquor store in Westport, especially in the summer months. I’m optimistic, and we’ve been fortunate to have great local support so far!”
Homestead Spirits is located at 6 Champlain Avenue, adjacent to Westelcom/Chazy Westport Telephone Company, and is open every day of the week except Tuesday; weekdays 11am to 6pm, Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday noon-4pm. The shelves are stocked with a variety of liquors and a mix of red and white wines in bottles and boxes, and new items are added weekly.
